They are not of this world…

Valentines Should Be Eternal

That night he went to church alone, it was cold and his wife did not want to take their five little children out.  Having newly been saved less than two months ago, both of them had been in search of receiving the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. That night at the church altar he rejoiced receiving what they had been looking for.

When his wife heard him approach their home that night she heard him speaking in tongues in his deep sonorous voice. Her heart leaps and then quickly sank again. She was glad he had received the Holy Spirit but then remembered she had had to stay home that night and she had not been blest like him. They hugged in celebration for him but, her two-sided tears were both happy and sad. She felt God had forgotten her.

They had studied about receiving the baptism according to the second chapter of the book of Acts. They knew it provided strength, and staying power for the Christian walk, and it would be a comforter and counselor. (John 16:7-15) They had both been proactive in searching to receive this incredible gift, and now he had it but she did not. He encouraged her saying, “I am sure you too will get it, do not worry,” as he put his arms around her to snuggle in bed. The moment he put his arms around her body she too instantly received the impartation of gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. They hardly slept that night as they rejoiced praising God in their new languages! The year was 1954.

Many Years Later…

A young Christian woman with three children just found out her husband was involved in an affair with a co-worker. They screamed, name called and fought, but mostly she cried and cried. She could not find solace in her shattered world. For her Christian husband adultery or fornication was just a social blunder but no big deal, after all he was not the first man to be unfaithful nor would he be the last, this was his opinion. Little did she know that these traumas to her marriage would happen over and over again until she would finally walked out and never looked back.

In the mean time when this happened, she searched for comfort in God. She felt so unloved, rejected she had even stopped believing in love. Weeping, she told God “I thought love would be eternal?”  She felt so defrauded.

Before, during her adolescent years she  had searched  to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but it had been elusive. Now, hoping to get strength from Him she made up her mind she would find this baptism.

Desperately, she bought a small little booklet named Seven Steps to Receiving the Holy Spirit by Kenneth E. Hagin. That day after she had dropped off the children in school she knelt down next to her bed and opened the tiny booklet that she thought she would follow as a recipe to obtain a finish product. She read only one page and a half when suddenly she started speaking in tongues!

She marveled and reveled in the new-found languages she had found!  Ohh, the strength and the sweetness of the Holy Spirit! It would keep her alive.

As she prayed softly and sang to God she glanced at the wall where she had a calendar circled on the date was a red heart she had placed there at the beginning of that year, it was February the 14th.  She had just received an Eternal Valentine. Now, she would never forget the day she got this gift. The year was 1980.

The original couple that had acquired the Valentine of the Holy Spirit, they say it was in a cold day in the in the middle of February. In their loving relationship they were able to share such a marvelous event between them. Then they turned around and taught all their children the awesome experience of accepting the comfort and power of the Holy Spirit. This is why the young woman, their daughter in the story when she found herself in the worst pain of her life knew to look for the comfort and strength found only through the Spirit of God.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is after Jesus himself, the Eternal Valentine from Jesus to the believer since the experience of the Upper Room 2,012 years ago. Some people have been lucky to get it on Valentine’s Day.  But any day you get it will feel like Valentines Day. For true love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:13 reads,

“ And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Happy Valentines Day!
